If your Arduino Project has limited pin resources you will not be able to use the normal LCD shield. 
This I2C interface LCD module will allow communication to the display via a 2-wire serial connection.

Allows mounting directly behind the 1602 LCD module.
Connection to Arduino controller via two connections, can use a Dupont (jumper/ribbon) cable, plus a 5v supply.
  • 5v Supply Voltage
  • Backlight and Contrast adjustable via onboard potentiometer
  • Default Address: 0X20 or 0X27  (range= 0X20~0X27)
